Some of my Favorite Software
I've been planning this page for quite awhile and I hope to add regularly to it.
There's lots of software, both freeware and inexpensive shareware that I use daily about which I'd like to share the info with you.

For my resources start page,
click here. It's called Great Beginnings. and it's a start page to find many great sites.

If you want to trade links with me, send me your URL, your logo if you have one, and a brief description of your site.
I will check it out and add it to my pages. To link to me and would like to use a banner, just snag the one below. Thanks!

My Favorite Software that I use every day!

Efficient Calendar
You know I love to share with you when I find something I really like. Just look at my Great Beginnings page and you know what I mean. Love to share!! LOL
Well, in the spirit of sharing, I'll share that my memory is lousy, really really lousy. Between the ADHD and the Fibromyalgia, I'm in a perpetual brain fog.
For crying out loud, I forgot my own last name for about an hour not so long ago. That put me in a sweat!! So I need visual reminders of things, appointments, events, birthdays, etc.
For years I used a computer calendar called Visual Day Planner and I loved it, had it popping open every morning when I started the computer just to be reminded of appointments, birthdays, etc. It had a simple interface, was easy to use and just what I needed. Well it got so old and never updated by the software designer, that the recurring events started dropping off and the calendar only went up to 2009 in the pick list, so I searched for a replacement last month. I must have tried a dozen.
I liked one called VueMinder and used it for about a month, but, although it was visually very nice, it was so resource intensive and took so long to open that I avoided opening it, and removed it from popping open every morning, and then of course forgot birthdays! My husband's birthday was on Monday and Sunday afternoon I suddenly realized it and had to go shopping. So I thought it was better to find something else.
I wanted something simple but with lots of features, not too resource hungry and would open quick.
After trying out lots of other ones and each found lacking for me in some way, I found this one called Efficient Calendar and I just love it. It's interface is perfect for me and it opens super fast!
I took a screenshot of my favorite view, which is the monthly view and the one I keep open most often.
The words on the calendar are a bit truncated as I made the calendar smaller than I usually keep it to take a screenshot. You can make it as big or as small as you want.

There are more views, as you can see at the top of the calendar: day, week, work week, year. You can see more screenshots here.
There are many holiday files for different countries to add to the calendar. I've added both the US and Canadian holidays.
For recurring events, they are so easy to put in, just give the event a name, a time or click on all day and if it's recurring,
just pick the recurring tab and how often, and you can customize the colors so you can tell which type of event it is at a glance.
You can pick various themes and skins. There's a task list. You can see a list of today's events, or all events for the year.
Just so many features. You can get a free edition or a free to try full edition. And the full edition isn't too expensive either! Go take a look.
If you are in the market for a desktop calendar, you won't be disappointed.
And if your memory is as bad as mine, stick it in your Scheduled Tasks (comes with Windows under Accessories>System Tools) to pop open at certain times.
Cause you know you'll forget to look and see what's coming up!
See I did all the research for you, just like I love to do!

Hugs, Ellie
Better File Rename
I wanted to share with you another software tool I use multiple times per day, Better File Rename.
I download tons of stuff and sometimes I need to rename them to a sequence, change the name to a formula I  like better, etc.
I just pick the whole list of file names I want to change, right click and click on Better File Rename in the context menu.

For instance, my ebooks, I like the author first, last name then first name, then the name of the series if there is one, then the name of the book.
So I can change for instance "Sliver of Truth-book 2 in Ridley series-Lisa Unger" to "Unger, Lisa-Ridley Jones 02-Sliver of Truth" in just a couple of steps.
You may think oh that's easy to change but what if you have the whole series to do? Maybe 10 or 15 books. You can do them all at the same time in a step or two. I just love, love, love this software.
I changes case, replaces one text with another, adds numbers, adds to the beginning or the end of a file name, and tons of other stuff. Great for any file, like photographs, music, etc
Here's what it looks like in use

I just looooove this program! I work with so many files every day that it would be impossible without this great program.
Check it out here

It's not very expensive either, less than $20 and well worth it!
More to come on my favorite software another day! I'm in the middle of switching to a new Windows 7 computer.

Hugs, Ellie
