I am assuming you know the basics of Paint Shop Pro and where
the tools can be located. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

Here's a small version of the tag that you can drag with you for reference
 |
Preparation
Before opening PSP, double click the font to open it and leave it open
so it will be available for use in PSP (or install it)
Put the plugin into your plugin folder.
Put the plaid.bmp in your textures folder if you don't already have it, it comes with PSP
Now open PSP. Open your tubes in PSP, duplicate them (shift-D) and close the originals
None of the tubes are used more than once, so each can be closed after use. |
Step 1
Open a new canvas, 700 X 500 - black
Make your foreground color #4c4d6d (smoky blue)

Layers>New raster layer
Fill your canvas with the color

Make sure the mask sg is open in psp
Layers>New Mask Layer>From image/Find the mask sg - check the box "Invert mask data"

Right click in layer palette and merge group |
Step 2
Activate tube "cerchio" (the wordart circle)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas

It will paste into the center of the mask, as shown in my tag, so no need to move

Using your Magic wand, RGB Value, tolerance at 100, select the inside of the circle
Selections>Modify>Expand by 5
Layers>New raster layer
Fill the canvas with your foreground color
Effects/Texture Effects>Texture. Find the texture file plaid, settings: 100/0/1/0/0/315/50/30/color white

Deselect (Control-D)
Layers>Arrange>Move down (or pull it down in the layer palette)
This will put the edges below the circle tube.
 |
Step 3
Activate tube "diva1" (top half of the girl)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
Moves it to the left, as shown in tag.
Highlight the textured layer and with your eraser tool, opacity at 50, size about 50,
erase the texture in behind the diva 1 tube from the face and hands as much as you can.
Be careful when doing this as some of this erasing seems to erase
parts of the mist of the girl tube. Don't know why. LOL

Layers>Merge down
In the layer palette, select the circle layer
Merge down. |
Step 4
Activate tube "punti" (the doodles)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
Move it to the left, as shown, almost to the left edge
Layers>Duplicate
Image>Mirror
Merge down
Pull down in the layer palette to just above the mask layer,
so it's stray edges are below the circle layer

(I over-sharpened this picture so you could see the doodles better in such a small picture.) |
Step 5
Activate tube "fiori" (the flowers)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
Image>Mirror
Move it to the left and place as shown, then pull beneath the doodles layer
Layers>Duplicate
Image>Mirror

Merge down

Highlight the top layer |
Step 6
Activate tube "diva2" (the whole girl)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
Image>Resize 80%, resize all layers not checked

Effects> Xero Clarity. Default settings of 128-3-50

Effects>3D Effects>Drop shadow 3/0/65/7/black

Move to the right as shown
 |
Step 7
Activate tube "nota" (musical note)
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
Move to where it appeals to you
Layers>Duplicate
Image>Mirror and move to where you want it
Layers>Duplicate and move
I put two in the bottom left corner and 1 near the top right
(see the larger tag if you have trouble seeing them in the small example here)
 |
Step 8
In your layer palette, select the merged flower layer
Activate tube "glitter"
Edit>Copy (Control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-L) in working canvas
It will be in the right spot vertically, so just use
your cursor keys to move it to the far left edge as shown.

Select all
Selection>Float
Selection>Defloat
Duplicate the glitter layer two times (3 layers total)
Select the first level glitter and close the others 2 (click on the eyes)
Adjust>Add/remove noise - uniform and monochrome checked value 40%

Close this layer and go to the second glitter layer
Adjust>Add/remove noise - uniform and monochrome checked value 45%
Close this layer and go to the third glitter layer
Adjust>Add/remove noise - uniform and monochrome checked value 50%
Deselect |
Step 9 - Adding your name
Highlight the large diva 2 tube layer.
Make sure your "gabriel-zilver" bmp is open.
In the color palette, click the arrow to switch the foreground color to the background color,
and switch the foreground color to pattern - find the pattern "gabriel-zilver" that you have open.

Using your text tool, vector, with a beautiful font, type your name
(I used TinplateTitlingBlack, which I supplied, size 48, stroke width of 2)

Right click in layer palette and convert to raster layer
Move down to bottom right corner, and in the layer palette,
pull this layer down below the large diva tube (or Layers>Arrange>Move down) |
Step 10 - Erase part of name
In your layer palette, select the diva 2 layer
With your eraser tool, size 5 to 10, hardness 100, opacity 50, erase the parts that cover your name

If you are going to resize, now would be the best time. |
Step 11 - Either finish and save or prepare for animation
Add your watermark and copyright information
Save as psp file if you are going to animate (to save what you've done so far, I always do this to be safe) or save as jpg or gif if you are not going to animate.
Saving as a jpg gives you a smaller file size.
**************************
If you are going to animate, prepare the tag for animation
Duplicate the tag 3 times (shift-D)
In tag 1, click the eye to close glitter layers 2 and 3 and merge visible.
Save as frame 1, either as a psp file or psd. If you save as a pspimage file, make sure
you go to options in your save window and change that to psp 7 compatible.
For frame 2, turn off glitter layer one and turn on glitter layer 2, merge visible, save as frame 2
For frame 3, turn off glitter layer 2 and turn on glitter layer 3, merge visible, save as frame 3
There are other ways to save for animation but I do it this way,
it's quick and easy. Do it whatever way it's easiest for you. |
Step 11 - Animation
1-Open Animation Shop, open your saved psp or psd tags frames 1 and 2,
2-copy frame 2(control-C), back to frame 1, Control-Shift-L to copy as a new frame after frame 1, 3-open your saved frame 3 tag, copy, and paste after frame 2 (Control-Shift-L).
You should now have 3 frames on your frame 1 tag.
Go to view>animation and see if you like it.
If so, save as a gif. I just save using the defaults.
 |
Resizing
To resize, make sure, to retain the texture and the clarity,
resize at 90% bicubic and repeat till you get close to the size you want.
At that point you can resize by pixels as usual.
You will find this makes a big difference in your final result.
If you resize, use the unsharp mask or Brightness/Contrast to sharpen it a bit.
Adjust>Sharpness>Unsharp mask at Radius 1, strength 60, clipping 4
or
Adjust>Brightness and Contrast set to Brightness of 5-contrast of 15.
You can resize either in PSP or in Animation Shop.
If the size difference is going to be quite a lot, I prefer to resize in PSP before
animating, so I can use Unsharp Mask to brighten and sharpen after resizing. |
Watermark:
Layers>New raster layer. Add your water mark on this new layer.
Layers>Merge>Merge all (flatten)
Save:
File>Export>Jpeg optimizer - compression of 20.
If you've animated, you'll need to save it as a gif. I usually
just use the defaults in Animation Shop. |
l hope you had fun!

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks
to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Don't Stop the Music" tutorial header is
Melody
Maker.
(Click on the font names to download the fonts.)
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI
Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
