For this tutorial you
will need:
or

I've done this tutorial in PSP 9 and PSP XI.
I believe it can be done in most versions.
You may have to look around for the commands but it's likely
they are there.

Filters and materials needed
FM Tile Tools>Blend Emboss, available
here,
trial version-Blend Emboss is one of 7 that keeps working after
trial ends
Xero>Porcelain, available free
here It's in set 1
Photo Effex>Scanlines, available free
here
Graphics Plus>Cross Shadow, available free
here
Supplies
in zip file
here
for version 8 and up
Supplies in zip file
here for older psp
versions has .psd tubes instead of pspimage. these can be opened
in any program.
The gradient in the psp file is pspgradient. I have read that
changing it to jgd will allow
it to be used in PSP 7 so that's what I did for the psd supplies
folder. I hope it works!
My plugin windows may look different from yours as I use Filters
Unlimited 2 to manage my plugins.
It's available for purchase
here:
http://www.icnet.de/filters_unlimited/
I am assuming you know the basics of Paint Shop Pro and where
the tools can be located. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

 |
| 1. Put the West gradient in your gradient folder
and the mask 20/20 in your masks folder |
| 2. Open the picture Cloud-child. Duplicate (Shift-D), close original. This will be your working canvas. |
3.Layer palette, right click, New raster layer.
Change your foreground color to gradient, click on the color box and in the next window find the west gradient.
These settings: linear, angle at 45, repeats at 1, invert checked

Using your flood fill tool (paint bucket), fill canvas with this gradient
Adjust>Blur>Gaussian blur at 50
In layer palette, change the opacity to 53

 |
4. New raster layer
Selections>select all (Control-A)
Copy (Control-C) maj0408 (beach scene) and Edit>paste into selection.

Move it a bit to the left

Effects>FM tile tools>blend emboss at default settings
Adjust>Photofix>digital cameral noise removal - move all sliders to the end, to 100
In PSP XI it is found at Adjust>Digital Camera Noise Removal

If your version is an older one and doesn't have this noise removal setting,
try the filter Xero Porcelain.
I find this is a very good substitute.

 |
8. Open the tube mm-mk father'sdaymm
Image>Mirror
Layers>Load Mask from disk, load mask 20/20 with the same settings as before
Right click in layer palette and merge group |
9. Resize it 4x at 80% bicubic (this is not the same size as just resizing to 20% all in one step)

Copy and paste as new layer
Move it to the left just till the man's elbow touches the left edge (see example)

Change the blend mode to Luminance (Legacy)
Effects>FM tile tools>blend emboss at default settings

 |
11. Copy childlove and paste as new layer
Resize to 80% bicubic, resize all layers NOT checked
Move it down as shown in example.
Change the blend mode to Luminance (Legacy) and the opacity to 65
Effects>FM tile tools>blend emboss at default settings
 |
12. Copy fem-maj0428 and paste as new layer
Move it to the right and up, so that the eyebrow meets the angle of the sky (as shown)
Change the blend mode to Luminance (Legacy) and the opacity to 57

Effects>Xero>Porcelain, bottom 3 move to 0

 |
13. If it all looks ok, make raster 3 active, the beach scene layer
Click on the eraser tool and set at these settings
Circle, size 20, hardness 50, step 10, density 100, thickness 100, rotation 0, opacity 5

Erase the face of the little girl and also the father and children,
to clean the background from them, where needed, see example
 |
| 14. Merge all layers. Copy. |
15. Image>Add borders 1 pixel #644429
Add borders 3 pixels #d6ab6e
Add borders 1 pixel #644429

 |
16. Add border, uncheck symmetrical
top, left and right at 50 pixels, bottom at 100 pixels, white

Select white borders with your magic wand, tolerance and feather at 0, anti-alias checked and pick inside
Edit>Paste into selection
Adjust>Blur>Gaussian blur at 50
Effects>Graphic Plus>Cross Shadow, top 7 on 50, bottom one on 128

Leave selected |
17. Effects>Texture effects>Fine leathers, default setting

Add borders 1 pixel #644429 |
19. select with your magic wand the 3 pixel border
Effects>Graphic Plus>Cross Shadow, top 6 on 50, bottom two on 128 (default setting)
Now do this with the other light 3 pixel border that's closer to the inside of the frame
 |
20. New raster layer
Select all
Selections>modify, contract by 25 pixels

Fill selection with your West gradient, same settings as in the beginning
(this will fill in the whole picture, but don't worry). Keep selected
Selections>modify, contract by 3 pixels and hit your delete key.
Now the picture will again be visible with a thin gold line halfway in the leather border.

Select none |
21. Select all
Selections>Float
Selections>Defloat
You will now see marching ants around your gold band you just added.
Effects>Photo Effex>Scanlines

 |
22. Put your foreground color on nil
and your background color on #d1bc9a
Use the font bisque with these settings and type your text on 2 lines, each line separate (see example below)
Vector, arrow down, size 22, stroke width 1.0, Bold, centre, anti-alias sharp

Original creator used size 30 pixels, I had to use size 22 for the same
size text in psp9. In PSP XI, I needed to use the 30 pixel size of text.

Blend mode on hard light

Give
both text lines a drop shadow of 1, 1, 100, 3 color #644429
 |
23. Make the layer above your background active (the gold edge in the leather border)
Take your selection tool, rectangle, feather at 0
Select the piece of the gold band where your second line of text is and then hit delete (see example)

 |
| 24. New raster layer, watermark and save. |
Resize if wanted. This will be a hard one to resize, as when you reduce a great deal, the fine lines become thick lines.
What I did for my screenshots was, using the zoom tool, I reduced the onscreen size to 50%,
then I hit Alt-Print Screen to take a picture, then control-V to copy as a new image.
Now crop out your tag. You can even resize it a little more this way, without getting those lines all ugly. LOL
I used 50% for the smaller tags, about 450 width. Make sure nothing is covering
any part of your tag, such as the layer window, before hitting print screen.
The tag is 760X650. You can take it down to 550-600 width without
losing the fine lines by just resizing in the normal way.

Don't forget to optimize (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 20. |
l hope you had fun!

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks
to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Memories of a Child" tutorial header is
BaaBookHmkBold.
Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.

Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
