Golden Straw Frame



 

For this tutorial you will need:
ULead PhotoImpact - available for purchase here
Visual Manipulation (VM) toolbox, available free here
Gradient, available here as jpg, right click and save,
Corners, click here for list of sites that offer corners for upload
I am assuming you know the basics of PhotoImpact and where the tools can be located.

1. Select graphic, control-D to duplicate, close original. Resize if too large, sharpen once if you resize. Open gradient, duplicate, close original, Edit>Copy, minimize.
2a.  Format>Expand canvas, Expand sides equally checked, 5 pixels, white
select with magic wand , go to Edit>Fill, click on the Image tab, Clipboard, Fit the Image, Merge Always, Transparency 0, OK. Keep selected.

2b.  Right click > convert to object, right click convert object from text/image to path. go to the Easy Palette, button gallery, any shape, right-click on A23, click on Variations and pick the upper right thumbnail. Click ok, deselect object.



 

 

It should now look like this.

 

 

3 Format>Expand canvas. Expand sides equally checked, 10 pixels, white,
select with magic wand   . Fill with the  gradient, deselect.
4 Repeat step 2
5.  Format>Expand canvas 25 pixels, Expand sides equally checked, select w magic wand , fill with gradient as above.

Go to effects>VM Toolbox>Dynamic Diffusion both H & V at 153, repeat twice more for a total of 3X.

Go to Effect>Material Effect>Wind, pick thumbnail 2. OK and Deselect.

7. Repeat step 5
8. Repeat step 2
9. Repeat step 3
10. Repeat step 2  
11. Using the rectangular selection tool , select around the edge of the graphic you framed, go to Selection>Invert. Sharpen>upper left thumbnail.
 
11. If you would like to use corners, browse to your corners (you can use .tub or .psd files, but not .psp files), open the one you like, copy, activate your graphic, paste as object, position to your liking in top left corner, resize and sharpen if you like, once it is to your satisfaction, right click and duplicate, go to the Transform tool , rotate and flip horizontally, and place it in the upper right corner. Duplicate, transform tool , rotate and flip vertically, place in lower right corner. Duplicate, transform tool , rotate and flip horizontally and place in lower left. You can go to each layer in the layer manager, highlight the layer for each corner and sharpen each one if needed or desired. Right click, merge all, resize if necessary, make sure you sharpen if you do, add a watermark if you want to, merge all again and save as jpg.
