For this tutorial you will need:
ULead PhotoImpact - available for purchase
here

I am assuming you know the basics of PhotoImpact and where

Instructions

Screenshots |
|
1. Open up the image
you would like to use. Duplicate it by hitting control-D and
close the original. Resize it if needed, so the height is no
more than about 250 pixels. Crop if there is any white (or any
other color) border around the image, so the picture will flow
seamlessly across the top. |

|
2. Go to Effect>FM
Tile Tools>Seamless Tile, use these settings: both border width
and stretch control set to the default of .250, vertical
unchecked. |
 |
|
It will now look like
this. Sometimes the change is hard to see, but it is there and
allows the graphic to flow seamlessly. |
 |
|
3. Open the mask you
want to use, duplicate and close the original (click here for a
list of sites that have masks available. Many more available on
the web). If it is meant for a left border, rotate it 90 degrees
right. |
 |
4. Resize the mask to
fit the picture, using the transform tool
set to resize. Go to Edit>Copy. |
 |
5. Make your graphic
active by clicking on it. Change colors in palette to Black and
White. Click on mask tool
.
Paste as object your mask over top of the graphic., toggle off
the mask tool. You will see marching ants around the mask
selection. |
 |
|
6. Right click on
graphic and Convert to Object. Edit>Copy. |
 |
7. Open a new canvas,
the width of the masked graphic X 2000 pixels. Choose a color
from your graphic with the eyedropper tool
,
or pick a color you like. Leave it the way it is or apply a
texture. Paste the copied graphic to the strip and move it to
the top, making sure it is in the center. Switch to the pick
tool
and click on the box, shown at right, in the toolbar, to center it. |
 |
|
8. Apply a drop
shadow to the mask by clicking on it to select it, right-click
on it, check the shadow box, make sure the far left shadow type
is checked and change the x and y offsets to 5. Leave the rest
of the settings at default. Merge all and save as jpg. |
 |
|
You're done! I
cropped the bottom out of mine to make it smaller for viewing
here. It should be much longer! LOL
