See the original tutorial here for PSP in Portuguese.

This will open in a new window and print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For information about which fonts, programs, etc I used to construct my pages and my headers, click here.
For this tutorial you will need:
GIMPShop Graphics program and Plugin Manager, download them free here
Website for GIMPShop is here

If you are not familiar with GIMPshop yet, I have a tutorial here for a more detailed explanation of the
basic steps used in this tutorial, such as using a mask, adding filters, saving, and more.
It's called Getting Started with GIMPshop, and I'll be adding more as I go along and write more tutorials.
Click here to get to that tutorial. I suggest you read through it first once to familiarize yourself with the program.
It will open in a separate window.
It's interface is designed to look more like the mainstream graphic programs so it's not hard.
If you don't find your answer there, the coder's website has many screenshots etc.
here
If you are still having a problem, email me and I'll see if I can help.

Filters and materials needed
Convolution filters>Emboss Strong, download free here
Simple>Quick Tile, download free here
Stained Glass mask and 2020 mask-both in supply folder here
I've included them as psd files
Image
I find a tube doesn't work too well with this unless you put a coordinating
background behind and merge all before the seamless tile effect.

My screenshots may look different from yours as I use GIMPShop which is made to look like Photoshop.
If you have a different version of GIMP I believe the interface will look different.
GIMPShop and the plugin manager can be downloaded above
My plugin windows may look different from yours as I use Filters Unlimited 2 to manage my plugins - available for purchase here
http://www.icnet.de/filters_unlimited/

If you're new to the GIMPshop program, click here for my basics and how-to's to learn the basic steps used in this tutorial.
This will open in a new window, so make sure to disable your popup blocker if it won't open.
Keep it open as you're doing the tutorial for reference.

Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop where you need to mark or underline where you are.
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

1. open your image. Image>Duplicate and close original.
Go to Image>Image Size and resize (in the Image menu on the working canvas menu bar)
if needed to no more than 300 pix height
Duplicate (in that same image menu) and minimize.
2. Filter/Simple/Quick Tile

3. Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur>radius of 40

Filter>Convolution Filters>Emboss (Strong) set at maximum of 255.

Select>All
3.  Layers/ Mask/Add Layer Mask
Open the Stained Glass5c inverted image, resize (Image>ImageSize)
it to the size of your working canvas (In my case it was 212X300)
Edit>Copy over to your working canvas, Edit>Paste into
Right click in layer palette, Anchor Layer
and then right click again and Flatten Image
Select>None
It should look like this.
4. With the Magic Wand select the white lines
Copy your duplicate image, back to working canvas
Edit>Paste Into
In layer palette, right click and anchor layer, then right click and Flatten image.
Select None
5. Maximize your duplicate image
Layers/ Mask/Add Layer Mask
Open the 20-20 psd mask-resize (Image>ImageSize)
it to the size of your working canvas (In my case it was 212X300)
(Alternately, you can click on Edit>Transform and resize it using the bounding boxes, but this is easier)
Right click in layer palette, Anchor Layer
Right click in layer palette>Apply Layer Mask
You should have a floating misted image on a transparent background.

Edit/Copy and minimize (don't close it)
In working canvas Edit/Paste.

Edit>Transform. A scaling window will show up but you want to use the bounding boxes,
so look at your working canvas. You will see the bounding boxes there.
Using the left click mouse button, click on the right bottom box and push it up and to the left.
You'll still see your full image below it but once you click on Scale that will go away.

Now in the scaling window, click on Scale. If the window is behind the graphic,
grab it by the title bar and move it out from behind the graphic so you can see the Scale button.

You want it to fit in the center of the center diamond.
Move to the center of the diamond.

Lower the opacity to 40 or to your taste
In layer palette, right click and anchor layer, then Flatten Image

6. Filter/Simple/Quick Tile
Your tile is done.

Make it into a pattern on the palette*click here for instructions on how to do that.
(this will open in a new window, if you have a popup blocker, disable it)
You'll need to restart GIMP to have the pattern show up so save your masked image for use in the next step.
Go to Edit>Save As>click on browse for other folders and pick a location,
then click on Select File type and save as a gimp xcf file or a psd file to save the transparency
Don't forget to save your tile as a jpg as well.
7. Open new canvas 1024x300. (I usually make mine 1280 wide, this writer makes hers 1024)
In color palette, click on pattern just to the right of the color palette in the left hand palettes.
Now look on the right side, your pattern palette will show up at the bottom of the palettes there.
Find the pattern you just made. It will be in alphabetical order.
Fill canvas with the pattern using the bucket tool.

8. Open the image that already has the mask applied that you saved on a transparency
Edit/Copy (control-C)
Over to your working canvas, Edit/Paste (control-v)
Move it to the left side.

I found this pattern to be a bit too bright for a stationery background so I muted it by adding a layer,
filling it with a lavender color and reducing the opacity to 50%.
You could use white as well or a color that blends well with your stationery.

Flatten Image
Watermark and save and you're done!
l hope you had fun!

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.

The font I used for the text on the buttons (except for Email) is BrockScript
The font I used for "Translated from PSPIArtes" is French Grotesque.
The font I used for the tutorial header is Maryland.

Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site

This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI Presets, take a look at my Great Beginnings page.
