I've done this tutorial in PSP 9 and PSP XI.
I believe it can be done in most versions.
You may have to look around for the commands but it's likely
they are there.

I am assuming you know the basics of Paint Shop Pro and where
the tools can be located.
This is an extremely easy tutorial and can be done by beginners. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

You can also drag this example with you
 |
I would suggest saving the tag at the top of my tut and keeping it open while you work to refer to for placement.
Open your image, duplicate (Shift-D), and close the original. |
1. Activate your image and resize it to no larger than 350 on it's largest side.
If you resize, go to Adjust>Sharpen or Unsharp Mask.
Pick a light color
from your graphic for background color. I used #fcfdd3 (a pale
lime) for my bg color.

Select a gradient to go with your pic or you can use gold fill
or make the
gradient from 2 colors in your graphic, make the gradient your
foreground color.
I used BICE Fairylights 3 for the gradient,
angle 45, repeats 0.
 |
2. Go to Selections>select all.
Go to Effects>3D effects>cutout with these settings V&H: 0, Op 100, blur 15, color black. Select none.
 |
3.
Add border 2 pixels (for this step throughout the tutorial pick any color that will contrast with your picture);

Add border 2 pixels using the light color you picked from the

5.
Add border 10 pixels, select w magic wand and fill with gradient. Leave selected.
Go to effects>Andrew's Filters 4>Too many drinks and use these
settings: 10-11-9-72
(if these settings don't give you enough
color, play with the settings, but leave the Divider setting at
72. Apply.

Select none.

 |
6.
Add border 2 pixels using the light color you picked from the graphic.
Add border, 20 pixels, select w magic wand and fill with
gradient. Leave selected.
Go to Effects>Screenworks>Dot

Go to Effects>3D>Inner Bevel, and apply
the pillow preset:
W8, Sm 40, D2, Amb0, shin 10, angle 315, int
50, elev20, color white.

Deselect.

Leave selected

Go to 3D effects>Buttonize>Narrow Vertical preset (these

8. Open corner of choice. If you have tubed corners, you can open them in PSP
and save as psd file, they can then be used in any graphics program.
Open in PS/PSE, go to Select>All, Edit>Copy>go to your framed
graphic and go to Edit>Paste.
To resize the corner, go to
Image>Resize>Scale (In PS it's Edit>Transform>Scale).
Drag on the
handles to make smaller or bigger. Once you resize, go to
Filters>Sharpen.

Hint #1:
open the corner tube you like, copy, activate your graphic,
paste as new layer,
position to your liking in top left corner,
resize and sharpen if you like,
once it is to your satisfaction,
go to layer palette, duplicate, Image>Mirror, layer>duplicate,
Image>Flip, layer>duplicate, Image>Mirror. This will position
your corners exactly right in each corner.
You can of course use
your tube tool, but I prefer to open them and use them in this
way.

Hint #2: I plumped up the corners by using the inner
bevel preset Deep Beveled on them.

You're done!
Resize if desired, watermark and save (see below for tips) |
Resizing
To resize, make sure, to retain the texture and the clarity, resize at 90% bicubic and repeat till you get close to the size you want.
At that point you can resize by pixels as usual. You will find this makes a big difference in your final result.
If you resize, use the unsharp mask or Brightness/Contrast to sharpen it a bit.
Adjust>Sharpness>Unsharp mask at Radius 1, strength 60, clipping 4.
or
Adjust>Brightness and Contrast set to Brightness of 5-contrast of 15. |
Watermark & Save
Layers>New raster layer. Add your water mark on this new layer
Layers>Merge>Merge all (flatten)
Save:
File>Export>Jpeg optimizer - compression of 20. |
l hope you had fun!

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks
to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Fairy Frame" tutorial header is
Wellsley.
Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI
Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
