Thank you Renate and Erika for translating my tutorial.

They will both open in a
new window and print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

fonts, programs, etc I used to construct my pages and my headers,

For this tutorial you
will need:
Any graphics program
that allows 3rd party filters, such
as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as
IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters
to the program.

Filters and materials needed
Simple filters - Quick Tile - available free
here
VM Instant Art>Three Cut - available free
here
(entire set of VM filters)
A Tube, object (PI) or PSD file (Adobe)
*****************
My plugin windows may look different from yours as I use Filters
Unlimited 2 to manage my plugins - available for purchase
here.
*****************
I am assuming you know the basics of your graphics program and where
the tools can be located. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

 |
Step 1
Open the tube, object or psd file you want to use
Open a new canvas,
300 X 300 pixels
and flood fill with the dark color. |
Step 2
Go to effects>VM Instant Art>Three Cuts: leave all at
default except change rotation to 205
and set the bottom slider to a color you like, or colorize
later. I've used color 209 here

It will look like this now
 |
Step 3
Go to Effects>Simple>Quick Tile
 |
Step 4
PSP: create
new raster layer, pick bright color from tile (I used #90003b
here) flood fill, turn opacity down to 80 in the layer palette
You can play with the color fills here to see what you like and
play with the opacity as well.
PI: pick a color from your tile, make it your foreground
color, go to Edit>Fill and flood fill the tile at about 50, or
your choice.
In my purple canvas I didn't need to mute, when I colorized it I
lightened it there (see below).
PS: go to Layer>New>Layer, to create your new layer. Pick
a color from your tile and use that color to flood fill the new
layer.
Go to the layer in the layer palette and turn the opacity down
to where you can see the pattern through.
Use your own judgment. I slid mine down to 76%.
4a: Alternately you can colorize.
PSP: Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize
PI go to Hue-Saturation, check the colorize box
PS: Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation, check the
colorize box, and leave it on preview
PSE: go to Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Hue/Saturation,
check the colorize box and leave it on preview.
If you choose to colorize you can lighten the color there and
don't need to do the muting step as above)
 |
Step 5
Open new canvas 1280X300, white
6. PSP: In your materials palette, for foreground, pick
pattern, and choose the tile you just made. Flood fill new
canvas.
PI: Copy your tile, select your strip canvas and go to
Edit>Fill; pick the image tab and fill from clipboard, tiled
image.
Make sure your transparency is set back to 0 when you do this
(it will be set at the transparency of the last step).
PS and PSE: Go to Edit>Define Pattern (Make sure you are
on your new tile when you do this),
a new window will pop up, name your new pattern, click ok.
Click on your new canvas, go to Edit>Fill Layer>Pattern, and
choose the one you selected.
PS and PSE Fill Layer screenshot:
 |
Step 6
PSP: Copy
your tube, paste as new layer into stationery canvas, in layer
palette,
right click and duplicate layer, then Image>Mirror.
PI paste as object twice, put one at the left and one at
the right of the strip.
If you want to mirror it, click on the transform tool and in the
tool bar, click on the icon for flip horizontal.
Leave both selected and right click, click align and align
vertically). Leave selected
PS and PSE: go to your tube, then go to Select>All,
Edit>Copy, go to new canvas, Edit>Paste.
Now in the layer palette, right click and duplicate layer. Go to
Image>Transform>Flip Horizontal
(in PSE it's Image>Rotate>Flip layer horizontal) Place one on
the right and one on the left.
Make sure the 2 images are aligned.

 |
Step 7
PSP, PS and PSE:
Turn bottom layer off by clicking the eye in the layer palette
(see the red ex for the layer I turned off) for the background
layer,
Now make sure you are in one of the top two layers and merge
visible (you don't need to do this step in PI)
|
Step 8
PSP: Turn
the background back on. In the merged layer, in the layer
palette, change the mode from normal to burn
(if that doesn't look good with that tube, try another blending
mode).
PI: leave both selected and change blend mode in the
layer palette from Always to Luminosity Only,
if that doesn't look right with your tube, try multiply or
overlay.
In layer palette, turn the transparency down to about 51 if
needed.
PS and PSE: same as PSP except use overlay for the
mode (if that doesn't look good with that tube,
try another blending mode, Luminosity looks good usually).
Right next to that, for opacity, lower it to about 30% or
whatever looks good to you.

Done in PSP
 |
You're done!
Don't forget to optimize
PSP: (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 20.
PI: I usually optimize at about 80
PS and PSE: I usually save at about 8. |
| More versions |
Done in PhotoImpact
I lightened and colorized at the same time. For the mode I used
luminosity only and changed the transparency to 51.
 |
Done in Photoshop
I lightened and colorized at the same time, I changed the blend
mode
to Overlay and didn't need to turn down the transparency.

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks
to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Crystal Lace Tile" tutorial header is
Abricadabra.
Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI
Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
