Ellie's Treasures Universal Tutorials - Colorized Plaid Tiles

http://www.ellies-treasures.com/universal/colorplaid/colorplaid.html
This tutorial will print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For this tutorial you will need:
Graphics Program: Any graphics program that allows 3rd party filters, such as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters to the program.
Filters:
Sabercat Filters>Barcode
(Optional) Simple filters>4 Way Average
Some shortcuts I use are: PSP-Paint Shop Pro; PS-Photoshop; PSE-Photoshop Elements; PI-PhotoImpact
1. Open a new canvas, 300 X 300 pixels, white. Go to Effects (or Filters)>Sabercat>Barcode, set to 17, apply
(play with this one, various settings give different plaid effects, I have used other settings, just make sure it's kind of evenly spaced)
2.  Duplicate canvas, Rotate right 90°, then copy
In PI, Transform tool , Rotate and Flip, Rotate Right 90°;
In PSP go to Image>Rotate>Rotate clockwise 90;
In PS-PSE, go to Image>Rotate Canvas>90° CW
3.
-In PI: copy, go to original canvas, Control-V to copy, and change transparency of top layer to 42%, merge all.
-In PSP: change foreground to Pattern and pick the pattern of the rotated image; in original canvas, add new raster layer, flood fill with pattern and, in the layer palette, change opacity of top layer to 58%, Merge all (flatten).
-In PS-PSE: with rotated canvas active, go to Edit>Define Pattern, and name this whatever you want. Now go to original canvas, go to Layer>New>Layer, ok; with this new layer active, go to Edit>Fill>Pattern and pick the one you just made. Now go to the layer palette and with the top layer active, reduce the opacity to 58%. Go to Layer>Flatten image.
4. You can now colorize if you want:
-In PI: Format>Hue and Saturation>Colorize, and play with the three sliders till you get something you like.
-In PSP: Adjust>Hue and Saturation>Colorize, play with the little sliders under the two numbers until you see what you like.
-In PS-PSE: go to Image>Mode>Adjustments>Hue and Saturation>click on Colorize. Play with the three sliders till you get a color and intensity you like and click ok.
If you want a more subtle plaid effect, apply Simple>4 Way Average filter
I also made one that had the 4 Way Average Filter applied, then the Simple>Diamonds filter, for a diagonal effect
You're done! Don't forget to optimize
PSP: (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 10.
PI: I usually optimize at about 90
PS and PSE: I usually save at about 8.
