They will both open in a
new window and print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

fonts, programs, etc I used to construct my pages and my headers,

For this tutorial you
will need:
Graphic Program:
Any graphics program that allows 3rd party filters, such
as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as
IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters
to the program.
Image: to make tile from or put your tube on a compatible
background color
Tube (if making stationery): I used art ©Gail
Gastfield
Filters needed:
Simple filters, available free
here
Filter Factory E - available free
here in 8bf format or
here
in ffl format
(Get the ffl format if you use Filters Unlimited 2, as I do,
or a plugin manager can handle them as well.
If you are putting the filters into your program's plugin
folder
to use directly without a manager, you will need the 8bf format)
*****************
I am assuming you know the basics of your graphics program and where
the tools can be located.
This is an extremely easy tutorial and can be done by beginners.

Some abbreviations I used: PSP is Paint Shop Pro, PI is
PhotoImpact, PS is Photoshop, and PSE is Photoshop Elements. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

 |
1. Open a graphic or
tube, duplicate, close original.

art is ©Gail
Gastfield
If you use a tube, open a new canvas,
300 X 300 pixels, new raster layer, pull to bottom
and flood fill with a complementary color from your tube. Merge
all.
If you use a graphic, resize to 300X300 with Lock Aspect Ratio
unchecked.

I cropped out most of the white as I didn't want it to have too
much white in it |
2.
Go to Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur
In PhotoImpact, click on options and change radius to 16
pixels
In PSP, click on Adjust>Blur>Gaussian Blur, radius at 16
In Photoshop/Photoshop Elements Effects>Blur>Gaussian Blur
16 pixels
 |
3. Go to
Effects>Filter Factory E>Gradient Spokes Ratio Maker set at 49
 |
4. Go to Effects>Simple>Quick Tile
 |
5. You can now either
save or reduce opacity for a lighter effect (use white or
a pale version of a color in the tile)
In PI go to Edit>Fill, at 50% transparency
In PSP, right click in layer palette>new raster layer. Fill with
fill tool, reduce opacity in layer to 50%
In Photoshop or Photoshop Elements: Layer>New>Layer, then use the Paint Bucket tool
to fill, go to the layer palette and reduce opacity to
50%. |

50% transparency-orange fill #EFB9A4
|

50% transparency-white fill
|

50% transparency-white fill
then FM Tile Tools Blend Emboss twice |
You're done!
Don't forget to optimize
PSP: (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 20.
PI: I usually optimize at about 80
PS and PSE: I usually save at about 8. |

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away and her site is gone.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Gradient Spoke" tutorial header is
Flapper.
Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI
Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
