They will both open in a
new window and print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For this tutorial you
will need:
Graphics Program:
Any graphics program that allows 3rd party filters, such
as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as
IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters
to the program.
Filters:
Redfield Jama 3D - available free
here
Simple Filters - available free
here
*****************
My plugin windows may look different from yours as I use Filters
Unlimited 2 to manage my plugins - available for purchase
here.
*****************
I am assuming you know the basics of your graphics program and where
the tools can be located.

Some shortcuts I use are: PSP-Paint Shop Pro;
PS-Photoshop; PSE-Photoshop Elements; PI-PhotoImpact

This is an extremely easy tutorial and can be done by beginners. |
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop
where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

 |
1. Open graphic,
duplicate, close original. I used this art "Through the Woods" by Mark Keathley.
Check out his site, he has lots of beautiful art he allows for free use following his terms of use.
Resize to 300 X 300, aspect ratio unchecked.
 |
2. Go to Effects or
Filters, depending on your program>Redfield>Jama 3D, click
on the dropdown menu and
choose Front Bricks, default settings
except change the Brightness Ratio to 70 and the Light Boosting
to 65.
In my example below (I slid the saturation down to 5).
Play with the bottom 3 sliders, as long as you
use the Front Bricks preset those 3 sliders won't hurt and you
may like the result better.
*NOTE: I just updated my Jama 3D and the Front Bricks setting
wasn't in the list, so I recreated it, and saved it.
Click
here
or scroll to bottom of tut to see how to recreate the
Front Bricks preset.
Here are screenshots of the older version and the newer version.

It should look like this now
 |
3. Crop around the
resulting picture to get rid of the outer edges, like this (see
picture).
Resize back up to 300X300, aspect ratio unchecked.

 |
4. Go to
Effect>Simple>Zoom out and flip, it should look like this.
 |
5. Go to
Effect>Simple>Pizza slice mirror, it should now look like this.

You can stop here or go to the next step. |
6. Go to
Effect>Simple>Quick Tile, it should now look like this
 |
7. reduce opacity for
a lighter effect
In PI go to Edit>Fill, white at 25% transparency
In PSP, right click in layer palette>new raster layer. Fill with
fill tool, white, reduce opacity in layer to 75%
In Photoshop: Layer>New>Layer, then using the Paint Bucket tool,
fill with white, go to the layer palette and reduce opacity to
75%

After a golden
yellow fill (#DBC464) instead of white

After applying the unsharp mask
to the above gold tile (2/50/2) 3 times
 |
You're done!
Don't forget to optimize
PSP: (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 10.
PI: I usually optimize at about 90
PS and PSE: I usually save at about 8. |

To recreate the Front Bricks settings in
Jama 3D, adjust all the settings as shown, then click on the dropdown
menu at the bottom of the window,
click on "Save User Preset" and give
it the name Front Bricks. The Diamond shaped diagram at the top, with
the settings 25-25 is a little hard to get right
but just pull it into
this shape and you will see the numbers getting close. Make sure you
choose 25 and not
-25.
The same with the little slider bars below it, set at 15, make sure they are at
15 and not -15.
Don't forget about the slider bars at the far left and far left top, slide them
both to 15 as well.
Don't forget to save the setting when you're done, click on the drop down menu
at the bottom right and Save User Preset.

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was
made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away and her site is gone.
The font I used for all of the text on the buttons is
BrockScript
The font I used for the "Jama Tile" tutorial header is
Crayonette.
Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually
the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site
This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links
to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI
Presets, take a look at my
Great Beginnings
page.
