Ellie's Treasures UniversalTutorials - Radial Lace Tiles or Stationery

http://www.ellies-treasures.com/universal/radial-lace/radial-lace.html
This tutorial will print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For this tutorial you will need:
Any graphics program
that allows 3rd party filters, such as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters to the program.

Filters and materials needed
VM Distortion>Radial Pox; Simple>Quick Tile and Pizza Slice Mirror
My plugin windows may look different than yours as I use Filters Unlimited 2 to manage my plugins
1. Create a new canvas 300X300; fill tile with a gradient, very light to med dark such as I've picked here.

PI: Edit>Fill>Gradient: diagonal arrow down, two colors as shown
(you can also choose Multiple colors or magic gradient and pick a gradient there
for a slightly different effect, such as the bright pink tile shown in the alternate tiles here

PSP: set color palette to gradient, angle of 135, repeats 0, Invert checked
(more repeats if you like, it gives slightly different effects with more repeats,
such as the bright pink tile shown in the alternate tiles here)

In Photoshop/Photoshop Elements, go to Layer>New Fill Layer>Gradient, click OK in the next window,
in the next window, click on Linear, angle at 135, click on the drop down arrow and pick
the top left box which will be your foreground-background (or another one if you want),
In Layer Palette, right click and Flatten Image.
2. Effects (or Filter)>VM Distortion>Radial Pox (default setting)
3. PI: Effects>Sharpen>Emphasize edges, middle left thumb
PSP: Effects>Edge Effects>Enhance (Enhance more if you've got a fairly light color and hard to see edges)
PS: Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen More
PSE: Enhance>Auto Sharpen, can do this once or twice, whatever's needed
4. PI: Image>Brightness and contrast>middle right thumb (increased contrast by 12, did not increase brightness)
PSP: Adjust>Brightness and Contrast>Brightness/Contrast: Increase contrast to 10-12
PS: Image>Adjustments>Brightness and Contrast: Increase contrast to +12
PSE: Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Brightness and Contrast: Increase contrast to +12
5. Effects (or Filter)>Simple>Quick Tile
6. Effects (or Filter)>Simple>Pizza Slice Mirror
7. Optional
PI: brightness and contrast again, same settings
PSP: you can go to Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen or Sharpen more, whatever's needed to bring out the texture
PS: Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen or Sharpen more, whatever's needed
PSE: Enhance>Auto Sharpen, can do this once or twice, whatever's needed
You can save it here to use as a background tile or you can go on to the next step to make stationery
8. Optional
Open a new canvas 1280X300 (if you want to make your canvas a different height,
make sure you make your tile the same height first to make sure it tiles properly)
Fill your strip with the tile.
PI: Copy your tile. Go to Edit>Fill>click on the Image tab and click on Clipboard>Tile Image
PSP: set your color palette to Pattern, click on the box, in the next window click on the dropdown arrow and find your tile. It should be right at the top
PS: With your tile highlighted in PS, go to Edit>Define Pattern, give it a name and save.
Now go to Layer>New Fill Layer>Pattern. In the next window,  click ok.
In the next window, find the pattern you just made, scale 100% and click ok.
Now add a tube to the left, apply a drop shadow if desired.
I used a  misted floral tube so I didn't use the drop shadow.
You're done.  If you reduce the size, make sure you use your unsharp mask at Radius 1-Amount 64%-Threshold 4.
Save
Can save at very low quality, about 40 in PI or 60 in PSP and about 5 (Medium) in PS/PSE and it still looks good
PSP: File>Export>Jpeg optimizer - compression of 60.
In both PI and and PS/PSE the compression window comes up when you save.
