Ellie's Treasures Universal Tutorials - Whirlwind Tiles

http://www.ellies-treasures.com/universal/whirlwindtile/whirlwindtile.html
This tutorial will print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For this tutorial you will need:
Graphics Program: Any graphics program that allows 3rd party filters, such as the ones used here.
You can even do it in free programs that use filters, such as IrfanView.
There are instructions on their home site about adding filters to the program.
Filters:
Sinedot II filter
My preset for Sinedots II
: http://www.ellies-treasures.com/files/tuts/WhirlwindSinedotPreset.zip
(unzip and put into Sinedots II folder in your plugins folder)
Simple filters
(Optional) FM Tile Tools>Blend Emboss
(Blend-Emboss is one of the settings that continues to work when the trial is done)
*****************
Some shortcuts I use are: PSP-Paint Shop Pro; PS-Photoshop; PSE-Photoshop Elements; PI-PhotoImpact
1. Create a new canvas, 300 X 300 pixels and flood fill with your chosen color.
2. Go to effects (or filters) Dragonfly>Sinedot II, set as screenshot shows or pick the preset I have made for you
Since you are choosing to work without screenshots and there are too many settings to write down,
either use the preset I made or go to the tutorial online to get the settings.
(in PS and PSE it would not work in the default screen blend (see just above the color window).
I used max weight and it seemed the best of the blends available for PS and PSE).
To change the color, just left click on the color box and a color picker will open.
3. Go to Effects (or Filters)>Simple>Quick Tile, You can save now or go on to the next step to lighten the tile
4. reduce opacity for a lighter effect
Use same color you filled original tile with
PSP: right click in layer palette>new raster layer. Fill with fill tool and reduce opacity in layer to 25-50%
PI: go to Edit>Fill, at 25-50% transparency
PS and PSE: Layer>New>Layer, then fill with the Paint Bucket tool,
go to the layer palette and reduce opacity to 25-50%. Save as a jpg.
I lightened this one in PI at 25% using the same color as the background
You can save now or go on to the next step, using FM Tile Tools>Blend Emboss
5. Apply Effects>FM Tile Tools>Blend Emboss at default value. I applied it twice.
Alternatives
You can use some of the other Simple tiles instead of Quick Tile for a different effect
For instance, the tiles at the top of the tutorial:
The black one was done using Simple>Pizza Slice Mirror instead,
and the red tile at the end was done using Simple>Blintz and then Simple>Pizza Slice Mirror
You can also try Simple>4Way Average or Pizza Slice Mirror after the Blend Emboss.
You're done! Don't forget to optimize
PSP: (File>Export>Jpeg Optimizer). I usually optimize at about 10.
PI: I usually optimize at about 90
PS and PSE: I usually save at about 8.
