For this tutorial you will
need: Ulead PhotoImpact. I've done this tutorial in PI XL and Violette did it in PI XII I believe it can be done in most versions. You may have to look around for the commands but it's likely they are there. Filters and materials needed Filters Unlimited 2; Xero filters Supplies in zip file here: http://www.ellies-treasures.com/files/tuts/blend-lorianne-supplies-pi.zip They are in ufo format and the bird tube is psd format, which PI can use. Supplies in psd format here, if you would like to try this tutorial with another program http://www.ellies-treasures.com/files/tuts/blend-lorianne-supplies-psd.zip ************* Credits Tubes from Alejandro Rosales, Mtm Brigitte, Daisy and Kara with their permission Bird tube by White Wolf. You can use it or a bird tube of your choice. |
| Preparation Open your tubes (ufo and psd files), duplicate them (shift-D) and close the originals. I always open all of my tubes and close as I use them. No tubes are used more than once. I also keep a copy of the tag example open to refer to. Save mine from the top of the page and keep it open if you would like to do this. |
1. In color palette, change foreground color to #bccae3 (light blue) and background color to #0f5cb5 (dark blue)![]() |

Effects>Xero>Porcelain at default settings Object (or right click)>Shadow: the third thumbnail from left, settings: 10-10-50-100-72 ![]() |

| 7. Activate your DaisyWeb tube (lighthouse) Edit>Copy (control-C), Edit>Paste as object (Control-V) Layer palette>drag this layer to the bottom or Object>Arrange>Send to back Place on the right side behind the woman on the rock, move it up and right until the top of the lighthouse almost touches the top edge and you can still see most of the house on the right edge. ![]() Merge Mode: Overlay Transparency of layer: 50 ![]() Object (or right click)>Shadow: the first thumbnail from left, default settings: 10-10-50-100-10 (this will make it seem too dark but that gets fixed later) ![]() ![]() |
| 8. Highlight the layer with the woman and balloon. Pick your lasso tool, on the toolbar, click on select on object, then select a circle around the red balloon, click on the check mark to finish the selection ![]() Edit>Copy (control-C), Edit>Paste as new layer (Control-V) Place the second balloon on top of the first one Change the merge mode of this layer to overlay The balloon will now be more luminous ![]() Deselect |
| 9. Make sure no layers are selected. In your Easy Palette, click on Galleries>Particle Gallery>Clouds, and double click on Cloud 8 (check for spot in pi 12) ![]() |
10. Decorate to your taste with birds, merge mode>overlay, apply a shadow, settings: 3rd thumb from left, 10-10-50-100-18![]() ![]() |
| 11. Merge all (I didn't want to merge so I just held down the shift key and selected the top and bottom layers in the layer palette, this selected all the layers). Format>Brightness and contrast, top right thumbnail, settings: 12-12-1-12 (In PI 12 it's under Photo>Light>Brightness and Contrast) ![]() ![]() |
12. Format (Adjust in PI 12)>Expand Canvas: 1 pixel color #3c5b8d![]() |
|
13. Format>Expand Canvas: 5 pixels color #bccae3 Select with magic wand (if you didn't merge like me, instead of selecting with magic wand, go to Selection>Select All; Selection>Border, and pick border width of 5, inward, box, soft edge 0. ![]() Effects>Xero>Fritillary at default settings ![]() Format (Photo in PI 12)>Focus>Top right thumbnail ![]() ![]() Deselect Now you'll see why I didn't want to merge all. Now the rock is a bit over the edge of the frame, which I like, and I moved the lady with the balloon down so she is over the frame as well. ![]() Now I merged all. |
|
14. Format>Expand Canvas: 1 pixel color #3c5b8d (I did it a bit differently. I used colors #153398 (dark bright blue) and #4C89D0 a medium blue. I added 1 pixel dark, 2 pixels medium, 1 pixel dark, 3 pixels medium and a last 1 pixel dark.) ![]() You're done! |
|
If you resize Because of the texture effect on the frame, it won't look right to just resize, you will need to resize it down by 90% each time till it gets to nearly the size you want, then you can do a direct resize by pixels from there. If you resize, use the unsharp mask or Brightness/Contrast to sharpen it a bit. Adjust>Sharpness>Unsharp mask at Radius 1, Amount 60, Threshold 4. or Adjust>Brightness and Contrast set to Brightness of 5-contrast of 15. |
| Watermark, right click and merge all; Web>Image Optimizer>save as jpg at about 80. |
