For this tutorial you will
need: Corel Paint Shop Pro (or Jasc previous versions) I've done this tutorial in PSP 9 and PSP XI. I believe it can be done in most versions. You may have to look around for the commands but it's likely they are there. Filters and materials needed Texturizer Filters Unlimited Supplies in zip file here. http://www.ellies-treasures.com/files/tuts/porte-bonheur-supplies-psp.zip Supplies in zip file here for older versions if the other ones don't work for you. These are in psd format. http://www.ellies-treasures.com/files/tuts/porte-bonheur-supplies-psd.zip Tubes were made by Violette, and by Melissa with her permission You will find Melissa's scraps in her group, Scrappy Expressions (I love that group) http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ScrappyExpressions/ Font used was Vivacious I am assuming you know the basics of Paint Shop Pro and where the tools can be located. |
| 1 - Open your tubes, duplicate them and close the originals. I like to start with all of my tubes open and close them as they're used None of these tubes are used twice. |
| 2 - Open a transparent image of 600 X 550 pixels |
| 3 - Activate paper mgt_vyp_fond01 (Lily of the Valley paper) Edit>Copy (control-C); Edit>Paste as new layer (control-L) |
| 4 - Activate paper mgt_vyp_fond02 (dark green torn paper) Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer |
| 5 - Activate paper mgt_vyp_ruban01(dark green ribbon) Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place on the left side, bottom edge of ribbon on bottom edge of canvas With the raster deform tool set to scale, pull up on the height to make it fit Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow, settings: 0-1-60-1 black |
| 6 - Duplicate layer Image>Free Rotate>90 degrees, left, all layers not checked Image>Flip, now move into place at top of scrap as shown with the edge just touching the torn paper on the right edge of the ribbon. (don't use the command rotate counterclockwise 90 as it will rotate all layers, you need the free rotate). In the layer palette, pull this top ribbon layer under the left ribbon layer so it looks like the example. |
| 7 - Click on the eye to turn off the bottom layer and Layers>Merge visible |
| 8 - Activate the tube mgt_vyp_lacet01(the stitching) Image>Resize to 85% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place on the left edge /Duplicate twice in order to cover the central line with the ribbon (it's not long enough so you have to duplicate and move the stitching) Click the bottom layer eye to turn off so the only layers visible are the three layers of stitches, then Merge visible Rename this layer : Merged 1 Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow: 0-1-40-10 black |
| 9 - Click on the bottom layer eye to turn it back on Duplicate the lace Image>Free Rotate>90 degrees left and place at top of scrap Place on the top ribbon on the centre line as before. I wanted the stitches to meet at the corner and not overlap so, with the top stitching layer active, I used the rectangle selection tool to select the stitches I wanted removed and hit the delete key. Don't worry about deleting the side stitching, you're not on that layer so it won't delete anything there. If there are stitches in the right stitch layer you want removed, highlight that layer and use the selection tool and delete key. Once you're happy with the stitching, click the bottom layer eye to turn off Merge visible Rename this layer : Merged 2 Click on the bottom layer eye to turn it back on |
| 10 - Activate the selection tool Settings : rectangle, replace, feather 0, anti-alias checked (see ss) Click the custom selection icon. Place these settings in window: Top 75 - Right 436 - Bottom 508 - Left 47 Layers>New Layer>fill with color #dde1d4 (a very pale sage green) |
| 11 - Effects/Texture/Texturizer : Sandstone, scaling 52, relief 1, light direction top, invert not checked |
| 12 - Effects/Filters Unlimited/ Square Edge>Square edge 17 Deselect |
13 - Activate the tube mgt_vyp_muguet1(the flower) and resize twice at 85% Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer. Move into place as shown |
14 - With the rectangle selection tool, draw a selection on the part of the flower tube which is over the side of the note page as shown, it will just be a small bit of almost transparent white. Click on the delete key (see ss). Don't worry about selecting what seems to be the torn edge of the paper, it's not that layer you're on and you won't delete any of that. Click on eyes in the layer palette to close the bottom layer and merge visible to merge the torn paper with the flower. Turn the closed layers back on |
15 - Activate the text tool. Using the font of your choice (Vivacious, size 30, used here), type your text. I kind of paraphrased a line from Thomas Wolfe and made it my own! LOL Write line by line to better place the text Color #6d7164 (dark sage green) background color, foreground color turned off After each line I added a new vector layer and typed that line. I moved them into place when I was done, then added the drop shadow line by line (it will ask to make it a raster layer, say yes) Add a drop shadow for each line Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow : 1-1-40-1 black Click on the eyes to turn off the background>Merge visible (this will be merging the text with the note) Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow : 2-2-40-2 black (putting a drop shadow on the note) |
16 - Duplicate Image>Free Rotate>10° degrees to the left If you want the left stitches to go over top of the rotated note like I have, in the layer palette, pull the stitch layer up to the top. |
17 - Activate the tag mgt_vyp_tag01 Image/resize to 85% I found them a bit yellow for the tag so I went to Adjust>Hue and Saturations> Hue-Saturation-Lightness and played with the sliders to get it more white and less yellow. Duplicate 3 times For each tag: Add your text - I used Love - Tenderness - Happiness, and Luck for the tags I used the font Vivacious, size 24 for each tag (size 22 for Happiness to make sure it stayed within the tag) To rotate, click on the raster deform tool, hover over the middle box and you'll see two curved arrows. Left click on the box and rotate to where you want it. Add drop shadow as before to text. 1-1-40-1 black For each tag, merge visible Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place as shown on the example Add drop shadow to each tag, 1-1-60-1 black Make in the same way for the others tags |
18 - Activate the corner mgt_vyp_coin01 Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place in the corner lower right If you want your little tag (Happiness) over top of the corner, drag the happiness tag layer in the layer palette to the top Drop shadow" 1-1-60-10 |
19 - Activate the paper clip Image>resize at 35% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Duplicate Image>Rotate to your taste With the eraser tool, with no transparency or soft edges, erase the parts located below the paper Apply drop shadow to each: 1-1-60-1 |
20 - Activate the rivet Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Duplicate and place as shown |
21 - Activate the Pointe (pin) Image/resize to 85% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer With the eraser tool, erase the parts located below the paper |
22 - Activate the noeud01 (bow) Image>resize to 85% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place as shown Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow :1-2-40-2 black |
23- Activate the chain mgt_vyp_chaine01 Image>resize to 85% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer Place as shown Erase the part behind the "Love" tag |
24 - activate the tag02 Image>resize to 65% Edit>Copy; Edit>Paste as new layer In the layer palette, pull this layer under the chain layer and place as shown With the eraser tool, erase the part of the chain behind the tag You could leave it as the top layer but it's easier to erase the chain than it is to erase part of the tag |
25. Place your text. I used the font Vivacious, size 26. The creator wrote May 1, 2007 as this is a special holiday in France and they give Lily-of-the-Valley (Muguet) nosegays for good luck. I wanted mine to be good for the whole spring in any year, so I wrote Spring Time on it and no year. Write whatever you like! Apply drop shadow: 1-1-60-1 If you want to change the text on the tag later, add it after the final border and the merging. The text can then be added and changed as desired. Just remember to save the scrap tag while the text is still a layer as a psp or psd file. If you try and keep it as a layer now, you won't be able to add the borders. Close all of the layers except the chain, the tag and the text Merge visible Open your closed layers |
| 26. If you like your results Merge all (flatten) |
| 27 - Image>Add borders : 1 dark green pixel #3b3f32 |
28 - Image >Add borders : 3 pixels pale green #dde1d4 Select with the magic wand Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel set at: Bevel 2-1-0-1-50-0-color white-315-30-25 |
29 - Watermark and save File>Export>Jpeg optimizer - compression of 20. |
