See the original tutorial here for PSP in Dutch

This version has all of the screenshots but no backgrounds, etc. and a smaller font.

This version is like the printable above, but has no screenshots, only a small header at the top for an example.
This will take much less paper. The settings are shown as text instead of screenshots.

They will both open in a new window and print out on standard 8½" X 11" paper

For information about which fonts, programs, etc I used to construct my pages and my headers, click here.
For this tutorial you will need:
or
GIMPShop Graphics program and Plugin Manager, download them free here
Website for GIMPShop is here
GIMP website is here
PSPI plugin manager can be downloaded here by itself if you already have the program.

If you are not familiar with GIMPshop yet, I have a tutorial here for a more detailed explanation of the
basic steps used in this tutorial, such as using a mask, adding filters, saving, and more.
It's called Getting Started with GIMPshop, and I'll be adding more as I go along and write more tutorials.
Click here to get to that tutorial. I suggest you read through it first once to familiarize yourself with the program.
It will open in a separate window. It's interface is designed to look more like the mainstream graphic programs so it's not hard.
If you don't find your answer there, the coder's website has many screenshots etc.
here
If you are still having a problem, email me and I'll see if I can help.

Filters and materials needed
Bordermania, download it free here
Flaming pear - Transline, free here, look for Free Plugins halfway down the page
Supplies in zip file here includes a background, fonts and tubes in psd format
Also the gradient canvas at correct size if you don't want to make the gradient
Please leave the filenames and previews of the tubes intact.
The creators have worked hard to make them.

My screenshots may look different from yours as I use GIMPShop which is made to look like Photoshop.
If you have a different version of GIMP I believe the interface will look different.
GIMPShop and the plugin manager can be downloaded above
My filter windows may look different from yours as I use Filters Unlimited 2 to manage my filters.
A great program! It's Shareware and you can get it here.

If you're new to the GIMPshop program, click here for my basics and how-to's to learn the basic steps used in this tutorial.
This will open in a new window, so make sure to disable your popup blocker if it won't open.
Keep it open as you're doing the tutorial for reference.
Here are some arrows and bars you can drag and drop where you need to mark or underline where you are. .
Just left click and drag to where you want it then let go.
They will stay where you put them until you close your browser.

Here's a small version to drag with you as you go, for reference
Install the filters as I teach here, and install the fonts.
Fonts will not show up in Gimp or Gimpshop unless installed, just opening them will not make them show up.
Open up your background image and your tubes. Minimize all, they are not needed yet.
If you are using my ready made gradient canvas, duplicate it twice,
close the original and minimize one duplicate till needed.
1. Open a new transparent canvas 500X350 pixels
Make your foreground color # ffee9c and your background color #a06b41
2. Click on your gradient tool, pick Foreground-Background,
in the right hand palette pick foreground-background (RGB). Make sure your rulers are on.
Set gradient tool at opacity 100, mode normal, reverse not checked,
offset of 30, shape linear, repeat triangular wave, dithering checked.

Set your cursor in the canvas at Horizontal of 200, vertical of 150 (about the middle of the canvas)
Hold the left button down and drag down to the left bottom and end up
at 80 horizontal, 290 vertical then let go of the button.

The gradient will fill in and it should look similar to mine.

Duplicate this canvas and minimize the duplicate till needed.

If you are having a problem with this, use the gradient canvas I provided in the supplies folder.
If you made the gradient yourself, skip the next step for Gaussian blur
as it's not as sharp as the one in the gradient canvas I provided.
3. If you used the gradient canvas I supplied, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur>H and V of 5

Click on the icon at the bottom left of layer palette to make a new layer.
4.  Maximize your background image. Control-C to copy and over to your working canvas, control-V to paste.
It will paste into the center. using your move tool, move it to the top left of the canvas,
overlapping the edges just a bit to make sure it's completely covered.
Now click on your scale tool (hover over the tools to see what they are, scale tool is in the toolbar,
3rd row down, 2nd from the left) and using the box at the right bottom corner,
pull down to the bottom right until the whole picture overlaps the edges a bit on all sides.
When you click on the box, a window will pop up, probably in the way. Just move it out of the way
by dragging with the title bar of the window, and do the rescaling,
then click on the Scale button in that window that popped up.

In the layer palette you will now see your added picture is a floating selection. Right click and anchor layer.
It won't look great as it's pulled larger than it's resolution will allow but it looks ok in the end.

In the layer palette, reduce opacity to 60

5. Add a new layer. Activate the lion tube. Copy.
Go to your working canvas. Paste

Right click on that layer in the layer palette and anchor layer.
In the layer palette, place it as shown in the screenshot, and then reduce opacity to 70
6. Add a new layer. Activate the lion cubs tube (aren't they cute??:-)). Copy
Back to your working canvas, Paste. Move into position.
Right click on that layer in the layer palette and anchor layer.

In the layer palette, reduce opacity to 75
7. Add a new layer. Activate the woman tube. Copy
Over to your working canvas, Paste as new layer
Right click on that layer in the layer palette and anchor layer.
In the layer palette, reduce opacity to 75
8. Right click in the layer palette and flatten image.
Right click in the layer palette and duplicate layer.
9. Filter>Flaming Pear>Transline

In the layer palette, reduce opacity to 70
10. Click on your eraser and use the following settings in the toolbar
circle (19), opacity 50, the rest not checked

Now carefully remove the blinds effect from the lion's head, the cubs heads, the woman's head

Layers>Flatten layers
11. Filter>Lighting Effects>Supernova with the following settings.
Color is your foreground color. x and y at 0; radius 20, spokes 604, random hue 0

Select all
Effects>Bordermania>Frame #2 with the following settings
3-3-110-130 bevel and notch corner NOT checked

12. Open your duplicate gradient canvas back to full size and go to
Image>Image Size and change the dimensions to 524X374.
Go to your tag canvas, control-c to copy, back to your gradient canvas, control-v to paste.
It should paste right in the center. Right click in layer palette and anchor layer.

Select all
13. Effects>Bordermania>Frame #2 with the same settings as before.
3-3-110-130 bevel and notch corner NOT checked
14. Activate your text tool and set as follows:
Sloop Script Three-60-pixels- Use the brown background color.

Type "African" in the text editor box that pops up.

Filter>Shadows>Drop Shadow, with the following settings: 1-1-0-black-opacity at 100

Right click in the text layer>discard text information, then click on eye to turn background off,
right click again and merge visible (the drop shadow and text are on different layers so you need to merge them).
Click on eye to turn background back on. Click on your move tool and place the text as shown.
Repeat with the font "Where is the rest" and type "Dream",
(this font is only caps so it doesn't matter whether you type upper case or lower case)
then add drop shadow as before and finally move that into place as well.

Flatten image.
15.   You may need to sharpen, do that before you add the watermark.
Go to Adjust>Sharpness>Unsharp Mask with the settings 1-64-4

Your tag is done. Watermark and save
l hope you had fun!

Webpage Design Information
This webpage background was made in PhotoImpact with a tutorial by Deb DeHaven
Sadly, she passed away but her tutorials just came back online, thanks to PIRCNet.
You can find the tutorial
here.

The font I used for the text on the buttons is BrockScript
The font I used for "Translated from X-clusive Designz" is Calligraphia.
The font I used for the "African Dream" tutorial header is Sloop ScriptThree.

Click on the font name to download the font.
I use PhotoImpact to make all of my headers due to the amazing
3D text it has and the wonderful presets available free online
Most of the presets I use are either the ones that come with PhotoImpact, usually the Gel ones,
or from Deb's PI Tutorials and More (see below) or
Carol Oyl's site

This is the address to Deb's old pages
http://www.fortunecity.com/skyscraper/millenit/1716/pitutorials/objects/presets/presets1.html
I can't find any links to her new pages but the presets are still on this page for download.
For more sites to find PI Presets, take a look at my Great Beginnings page.
